A much needed update and future plans!
Hey everyone! It's been a long while since I've updated here, but I figured I'd pop back in with a small post on what I'm up to at the moment!
Things have been very busy for me this year so I haven't had as much time to update as I'd have liked! In April last year, I stumbled across a cool opportunity to go part-time self employed with some costume work/art work I'd been creating as a hobby that got more interest than expected.
Since then I've been balancing a mixture of freelance work with part time non-art related employed work to help pay the bills. The freelance stuff has allowed me to travel a bunch, deal at conventions and meet loads of cool people I'd never have come across before, it's been a lot of fun and really given me a confidence boost! Having people recognise my artwork at conventions or buy the stuff I've been creating has been really cool and conventions are a great experience, full of fun and passionate people :)
It's also allowed me to really diversify what I've can create, I've been doing a lot of sewing work, sticker and badge making and occasionally I've worked with small companies to create physical stock for stalls at cons. It's been a blast and a little stressful at times with deadlines and such! My next convention I'm currently prepping stock for is in November and then one after in May 2020, but I'm definitely missing animation and plan to bring my focus back to improving my work and breaking into industry properly.
My employed job is really going to start ramping up over Christmas so my current plan is to work on stock for these next two conventions and focus on my main job over the winter. Then from 2020 onwards I want to take on less commission work and put some solid focus back into studying animation, working on my reel and becoming less rusty with it all again! I'd like to use a mixture of Celaction and Maya for this, as I love both softwares and think I'd benefit from getting to grips again with both!
Here's a couple of pictures of some of the stock I've been working on for these conventions!
A lottt of bandannas, packaged and ready for my stall in November :) There's even more I've got prepped ready to sew! Definitely got my work cut out before this con!
Here's a photo from one of the conventions I did last October and my little setup for it!
A closer look at some of the keychain tails I made for the con and some previous bandannas and how I displayed them :)
But yeah! That's all for my small update! Not where I want to be, but this has been an interesting and fun year for me! Once xmas is over, you'll be seeing more of me again, whilst I venture into animation once again!
Until next post!
